Ding! Ding! Ding! Natalie’s pale yellow alarm clock set off at 3:00 am. Ding! Ding! Ding! She slapped the off button and crawled off her matching pale yellow and rose pink bed spread. Natalie’s favorite color was pale yellow, with one or two hints of pink. Today, the Unicorns were going to Six Flags! It was exciting to go there at last, but it wasn’t exciting to wake up at 3 in the morning. However, she needed to be at the airport at 5:20 am. She grabbed her Unicorns pink purse and yellow suitcase. Stuffing her secret banana yogurt into her purse, Natalie trudged out of her house. She was going to miss the stone walls and the roses growing in an arch outside the door. Climbing into the Convertible, she waved to her chihuahua Toffee, the car rumbled away. “It’s still dark out. I don’t know why we have to be at the airport that early,” Natalie complained. She checked her watch. 3:19 am! “Yikes! That’s early!” “Yes, but you need to be at that airport right away,” her mom explained. Finally seeing the silver building, she grabbed her suitcase. “See you in two weeks!” She exclaimed. And she was off.

All the girls were at the waiting area. This time, they were not in heavy parkas but t-shirts and jean shorts. Holly waved. “Hi Natalie! We’re waiting for our security checkup!” Holly said. “Hi guys! I think everybody’s here! At least I hope so,” Natalie exclaimed, doing a head count. Finally, the last person stepped through the security check. Alissa stepped through without any problem, and the rest of them did too. Then they lugged their suitcases to the luggage carrier. “I’m hungry!” Abigail complained. Natalie pulled out a banana yogurt and the Six Flags brochure. Then she handed a yogurt to Abigail. Reyna checked her watch. “It’s 5:19 am,” she exclaimed. “One minute!” said Hanna. Finally, the terminal doors opened.

A man at the counter punched their tickets and let them in. “Do airplanes always have to be so loud?” Alissa said. She pulled her fluffy green earmuffs back on. “Yes,” Reyna giggled. Natalie took her place next to Reyna, as always. She opened a Stylist Magazine and started reading. Reyna was reading The Land Of Stories. With a rumble, the plane took off high into a cloud.

Natalie pulled out her banana yellow pillow and rose pink blanket. She dug around for Chip, a small stuffed dog she had made with Hanna and Claire. Chip sat on her dresser every night. She balanced Chip on the lunch tray and turned out all the lights.

Natalie felt something slip out of her hand. Waking up drowsily, she realized that a book of hers was gone! Spying across the aisle, she saw Holly reading it. Holly gave a little wave and grinned. The little thief! Natalie thought. Since almost all the people were asleep and they couldn’t call or text, she sent a scrunched up note to Holly-

Holly winced as the paper bounced off her head. She replied in her curly handwriting.

Natalie looked over the note. It seemed like all Abigail was interested in was the weekly newsletter. Why didn't Holly have her own book then? She was about to tell Holly that but didn't continue when she saw that Reyna was sleeping.

Holly frowned, picked up her pen, and began to write.

Natalie yawned. The plane had started rumbling very, very loudly, which meant that they were going to come down. Natalie’s ears were ringing very loudly. Ugh, I hate it when the plane does that, thought Natalie. She shook the others awake before they could fall asleep again. When everybody was awake, they filed out of the airplane, claimed their luggage, and filed out the door. “Hey! Look!” Claire shouted. She pointed to a circle of six flags and many rollercoasters. “It’s the park!” she exclaimed happily. Natalie got out her phone and scanned the area with her Scanner D-Luxe app. Finally, the words showed up on the screen:

Six Flags, New Jersey

10 miles away

Weather: Sunny

“10 miles away!” exclaimed Holly. She immediately found 3 taxis and in a while, they were there.

Holly squealed with delight when she saw. The scariest rollercoasters flipped you into midair while doing a loop-the-loop upside down. Alissa squeaked in fright like a scared mouse. Holly dragged us all to the Dragon, a rollercoaster that seemed to crash to the ground but then scooped you up again and threw you into a loop-the-loop. Alissa ran away but Natalie found her, and dragged her into the line. The inside was dark and when they finally got to the boarding place it was too late. Holly and Natalie wanted to go first so they sat in the front row. The metal bar clanged down and the car started moving.

Alissa was white with fear when they approached the crashing-down part. With one last look down, she went straight down-I’m not kidding-STRAIGHT DOWN! She started screaming while the others laughed. It finally went up-up-up into the loop-the-loop which caused Alissa to scream even more. Finally, it stopped. Alissa stumbled out of the backseat. “Never going on that again,” she said, bug-eyed and instead took to the line for the bumper cars. Alissa wasn't always the rollercoaster freak; however, Holly was definitely the rollercoaster freak.

They finally stopped for lunch at their hotel, which was only a short walk away. Reyna made them some PBJ sandwiches and salads. After scarfing down their lunch, they headed out again.

“I want to ride Vertical Velocity,” Holly demanded. “What’s that?” Natalie asked. “It’s a rollercoaster where you sit in swings and it throws you straight up, crashes down, and does the same thing on the other side. It’s like 500 feet tall on each side!” Holly exclaimed happily, causing Alissa to go bug-eyed again. Holly excluded Claire-because she was scared of heights-and Alissa-because of you-know-what. She couldn't even stand the DRAGON! Wow, the Dragon was the LEAST scary rollercoaster at Six Flags. The scariest was Devil Horns, a U-shaped rollercoaster much like VV (Vertical Velocity) but it spun you in a loop-the-loop and threw you into midair before landing on the other ‘horn’. “I want to ride the Devil’s Horn,” Holly shouted as she saw the ride swinging people up and around. Holly decided to go in a group after VV (with Alissa!). But first, they needed to ride VV.

“I fit!” Natalie said. She had just done the seat test that showed whether or not she fit the seat for Vertical Velocity. Alissa seemed more relieved when she found out she wasn't going on. “Let’s go!” Holly said happily. The ride started clanging. Then it slowly rocked. With a sudden jerk, it spun to the top. “Uh-oh!” Holly laughed as they stopped at the top. They were coming down. Whoosh! “AAAAAAAAAAAH!” Natalie screamed. They spun to the top of the other end. “AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!” She screamed again. She was getting dizzy. With a few more spins, the ride stopped. Natalie went off to the bench with the others.

“Okay, next stop, DEVIL’S HORN!” Holly shouted. She was so excited that she was literally bouncing. When it was their turn, they took their seats. A cool female voice rang out of the loudspeaker. “Hello Six Flaggers. Welcome to the Devil’s Horn, one of the top ten scariest rollercoasters in the world. Please buckle your seatbelt and pull the lever until it reaches 40 or 60 for an adult. The seatbelt will tighten. Always keep a firm grip on the handle in front of you. Remember that this ride moves at 150-200 miles per hour and it is your safety to put on the goggles in front of you. Please follow the example.” A large TV screen slid out from the seat in front of them, showing a repeating video of Natalie tightening the belt, putting her goggles on, and holding on to the lever. She gave a small wave. “You are now ready to ride,” the voice said. The doors clanged shut and a guard checked them. Slowly, the car began moving.

Alissa was going white with fear. She sandwiched between Holly and Reyna for extra protection. Natalie sat next to Holly. “Ok, when I say so, everybody hangs ten,” Holly exclaimed happily. The ride grew faster and faster until they were whipping up the track. The giant loop was right in front of them. “GO!!!” Holly shouted, her hair whipping around her face. Natalie stuck both hands up in the air and screamed, “LOOP-THE-LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOP!!!!!!!!!!!!” the ride suddenly spun into the air, upside down. They were upside-down in midair. Alissa let out a scream. “AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!!!!” She shrieked. With a clang, the car found the track and shot back down. Sand and dirt pelted the goggles; the wind was so fast it totally blew Alissa’s braid out. The ride shot back up again and into midair. “HANG TEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEN!” Grace shrieked. She put both hands up and screamed happily. Alissa was rocking back and forth in her tiny little pink T-Shirt, looking paler then a ghost. Shooting down and up again, the ride spun into midair. A sudden gust of wind made Alissa lose her grip. She slipped both hands off the handle and squealed in terror. A huge crowd had gathered to look. They were videotaping and cheering. Finally, after one more loop, the ride stopped. “Please loosen the belt and push up the lever,” the voice said. With a hissing sound, the lever slowly pushed up and clanged back into its place. Natalie slid the belt back to zero tight and it loosened. Then they exited the car. “That was awesome!” Alissa exclaimed. Holly grinned big. “Want to go on again?” she asked. “Nah, we’d better get back to the hotel,” Natalie said. The others nodded in agreement. Heading back to their suite, Natalie unlocked the door and closed it. “Hey, let’s make a list. What would you guys like to go on next?” she asked. There were lots of hands, answers, and voting. It came out like this:

Six Flags Rollercoaster Ideas

1. Thunder Mountain: III

2. Underwater Expedition: I

3. Nascar driving: No votes

4. Terror Mountain: II

5. Race Against Time: I

Natalie looked over the list. “Thunder Mountain wins!” she concluded. Holly, Alissa, and Reyna cheered and high-fived. She crossed it out from the list. They headed off back to the park. Thunder Mountain was basically coaster that was bumpy on its track, then you seemed to fall into a hole and you come out in a waterfall that send you plunging but instead, a hole opens, you go in the hole, arrive underground, and it’s over. Alissa wasn’t scared of it because she liked being wet. They boarded eagerly. The car bumped up the track. Natalie shivered. It was cold up there! As they approached the hole, Natalie held on to the bar. With a small clang, the car stopped. Then it plunged through darkness. “AAAAAAAAAAAAH!” she shrieked with many other people as the car tumbled backwards, forwards, and side to side. It finally stopped with a clang at the waterfall. 3-D graphics put them in the mood of a dark and stormy night as they approached the edge. Hanging on tight, the car whooshed down the waterfall. Natalie shrieked even louder as they approached the water. Suddenly, a dark hole opened up and the car tumbled in. A guard lifted a lever that released the seatbelts, and they climbed out. “I want to do it again!” Alissa said happily. “Next time!” said Holly, winking at Natalie. “Now, where’s that list of yours?”

Natalie fished around in her pocket, finally pulling out a crumpled yellow Post-It note. She read:

Six Flags Rollercoaster Ideas

1. Thunder Mountain: III

2. Underwater Expedition: I

3. Nascar driving: No votes

4. Terror Mountain: II

5. Race Against Time: I

“Looks like it’s time for Terror Mountain!” exclaimed Alissa. And they were off.
